A Little Night Music cast announced – fantastic

Apologies for my absence over the last few weeks – I have just changed job, so things have been a little more hectic than usual at work…

There hasn’t been a massive amount of news in the last couple of weeks (apart from a flurry in recent days that I’ll cover in my weekly round-up). However, there was some major casting news at the back end of the week though which deserves its own post – and it comes courtesy of the Menier Chocolate Factory

The Friday musical round-up: 26th September

Not for the first time, I have failed to write my Friday round-up for a couple of weeks, due to a combination of lack of time and lack of news…

It’s still been a little quiet on the musical theatre news front, but there’s just about enough to sustain a post, so here I am… For those of you who are slightly more observant, you might notice me slip in a couple of things that didn’t strictly happen in the last week. Enjoy… Continue reading ‘The Friday musical round-up: 26th September’

Coming to a West End theatre near you?

Back in March, when this blog was still just days old, I wrote a post entitled ‘Upcoming shows – why musical theatre fans should be excited’ in which I talked about 4 shows rumoured to be coming to London that I was looking forward to. One of the shows, Spring Awakening, has since announced that it will be opening at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Over recent weeks, the number of new shows either being rumoured, or announced, seems to have accelerated. I thought it was worth providing a round-up of rumours, to give you a sense of what you can expect to see arriving in London over the next 6-12 months.

The Friday musical round-up: 25th April

So, here’s a very short round-up of this week’s musical theatre news…

Review round-up: What the critics said about ‘Gone with the Wind’

There have been no shortage of articles about Trevor Nunn‘s latest project, a new musical adapatation of Gone with the Wind. The signs haven’t been great in recent weeks though, with one preview being cancelled to give more time to rework the show. Cuts have continued to be made over the last week, but the show still clocks in at a weighty 3 hours 40 minutes.

This production has almost certainly required a large budget, so the producers will have been hoping for a positive reaction from the critics. Unfortunately, judging by the reviews in the major newspapers this morning, things haven’t quite gone according to plan.

Review: Lauren Kennedy (Menier Chocolate Factory)

Wow! I went to see Lauren Kennedy at the Menier Chocolate Factory this weekend, and she was ridiculously good. I was in good company too – Sir Trevor Nunn was also in the audience and certainly seemed to enjoy the show.

For those of you that don’t know, Lauren Kennedy is an American musical theatre performer. She has starred in Broadway in shows including Spamalot, Les Misérables, and Sunset Boulevard. She also performed in Trevor Nunn’s South Pacific at the National Theatre in London. She is also often associated with Jason Robert Brown, and played the original Cathy in his show, The Last Five Years

Right, that’s enough by way of introduction…
