Review: They’re Playing Our Song (Menier Chocolate Factory)

Whilst the latest musical offering from the Menier didn’t garner the critical acclaim of some of its previous efforts, the sell-out audience didn’t seem to care when I went to see the show last week…

I have been looking forward to seeing it since news of the production was announced. I was shocked by the negativity of some of the reviews, especially Christopher Hart’s in the Sunday Times, and was left wondering whether my trip would be a wasted one…

Review: The Wizard of Oz (Royal Festival Hall)

I was originally due to be seeing The Wizard of Oz  next week, and even managed to book tickets. Unfortunately, I then couldn’t make the performance, so it was looking like I wouldn’t get to see the Festival Hall’s summer musical. Fortunately, we managed to pick up a couple of last minute tickets for last night’s show.

Review round-up: Afterlife (National Theatre)

I went to the National Theatre on Tuesday night to see Michael Frayn’s new play, Afterlife, at what was press night.

I generally prefer not to stray too far out of my writing comfort zone and instead, I concentrated on writing about musical theatre in this blog (as you’ll see if you look at my planned trips for this year, you’ll notice a very clear bias towards musicals.

Given that, I don’t plan to write a full review of Afterlife – there have been plenty of other people offering their thoughts on the play, so instead, I’ve decided to pick up what they have said, and whether I agree at all with them.
