Review: Jersey Boys (Prince Edward Theatre)

It’s more than 6 months since the opening of night of Jersey Boys – I originally published my round-up of 1st night reviews back on March 20th! I’ve had tickets booked for most of that time, so it was a relief to actually see the show last night! But was it worth the wait? Continue reading ‘Review: Jersey Boys (Prince Edward Theatre)’

‘Ordinary Days’ at the Finborough and other new musicals

Regular readers of this blog will know that I complain pretty frequently about the dearth of original new musicals, but the plethora of jukebox musicals. Having said that, I don’t want you to get the impression that I’m entirely dismissive of ‘jukebox’ shows. In fact, I’m off to the Prince Edward Theatre tonight to see one – Jersey Boys – and have been looking forward to seeing the show for ages.

Group theatre trips for the rest of 2008

After a couple of discussions and some email back-and-forth, we have agreed our selection. We think it’s a pretty well balanced programme, so read of if you want some ideas for what to see.

Song choices in I’d Do Anything – what musicals do they come from?

As I mentioned in my post on this week’s ‘I’d Do Anything’, this week marked the first individual performances of songs from musicals. Given it was the 3rd week of live shows, it’s about time too!

The BBC’s official website is handily keeping track of what songs are being performed each week (click here to see what I mean), but they’re not providing any information on the shows that the songs come from… so I thought I’d fill that gap and write a little more about the shows that they come from (as well as providing some links if you want to know more)…

Review round-up: What the critics said about Jersey Boys

Originally posted on March 20th Jersey Boys

I haven’t seen Jersey Boys yet, so I was intrigued to see what the critics said after this week’s opening night. As ever, the reviews are mixed – The Telegraph, The Times and Daily Mail were all very positive, The Independent underwhelmed, and The Guardian disappointed.

I look forward to make up my own mind in due course, but in the meantime, here’s a round-up of the reviews I’ve read:
