Who will the new Andrew Lloyd Webber be?

You might have seen my post a couple of week’s ago about the rumours that Andrew Lloyd Webber will not be doing a BBC show next year… the subject came up again while I was out at dinner over the weekend, as we tried to work out who would take over from ALW on the panel (assuming that the BBC does a series without him, which I’m say is 99% certain).

Review: Hairspray (Shaftsbury Theatre)

When Hairspray opened in London, I thought the ticket prices were even more ridiculous than normal, with the producers having imported Broadway prices at the same time as the show. But eventually I relented, and went to see the show last weekend… and thank goodness I did!

The Friday musical round-up: 5th September

After a few weeks without writing my Friday round-up, musical lovers everywhere must be getting withdrawal symptons, so apologies for that!

It’s now nearly a week since the final of I’d Do Anything, so the dust has started to settle. Having blogged about the show throughout the series, I still had some opinions that I wanted to share… So in the first of my last few posts about ‘I’d Do Anything’, here’s my rundown on each of the 12 finalists, with my predictions on where their career will go next. They are in order of their position in the show (12 = the 1st person to have been voted out of the competition)…

Read on to find out what I think – I’d also love to know if you have any other ideas, or have heard gossip or rumours!

Any Dream Will Do – the winners’ story

We’re now more half way though ‘I’d Do Anything’, and the pressure is mounting on the remaining contestants… but I have been wondering – is it really an all-or-nothing situation for the girls who are left, or have they already overcome the hardest hurdle by making it this far?

When the BBC was under attack from critics for broadcasting ‘an extended advert for the musical’, some fans (including myself) defended it on the basis that it is likely to help make a career for the majority of the stars of the show. Having written that in my response to Kevin Spacey, I thought I should actually test whether that was true based on previous series…

After a bit of research, I was somewhat surprised by what I discovered – all but one or two of the finalists have made been successful, but it relied massively on Bill Kenwright, the producer who was a judge in the last series…
