The Friday musical round-up: 18th April

It’s that time again – apologies for the delay! Here’s my round-up of this week’s musical theatre news…

And so, this week…

  1. Donmar Warehouse announces its summer musical, Piaf. To find out more, check out my earlier post
  2. Alistair McGowan announced to join his 2nd musical in just over a year, this time seemingly playing against type as the Emcee in Cabaret
  3. Gone with the Wind, Trevor Nunn‘s new production, began previews, but appeared to acknowledge things weren’t going entirely to plan when it cancelled Tuesday night’s preview to allow “more techical time on stage”. See here formore, or the show’s official website here
  4. Sister Act The Musical rumoured to be coming to London later this year, after a successful Broadway run. To find out more, see the show’s wikipedia entry, or the US production’s official website
  5. Letitia Dean confirmed to write star in the West End production of Disney’s High School Musical when it opens at the Hammersmith Apollo on 30th June. It’s the first time she has been in a musical since she was 13 years old!
  6. Dickens Unplugged was confirmed to play at the Comedy Theatre from 9th June – written by Adam Long, one of the original members of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, its official website promises to “take you on a journey through Dickens’ greatest works as you will never have seen them before”. After fantastic reviews in Edinburgh, this looks like it could be a hit

Have a good weekend!
